ABOUT US

Shely Pack has been a dance educator on the San Mateo coast for nearly eighteen years and an educator for over forty. She began her dance training in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she studied and danced with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.

Shely is currently a faculty member of TTS (Teachers Training School) at the University of Buffalo. She is also the chairman of the Modern Dance Education Committee for Dance Masters of America

Shely has been recognized by the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts for her teaching and influence in encouraging and supporting students who have been recognized for their exceptional artistic achievements in the 1998-99 Arts Recognition and Talent Search Program.

Shely is also a member of Dance Masters of California Chapter 13, where she is a Past President. Three of her students have recently won the title of Petite Miss Dance of California 2012; Teen Miss Dance of California 2012; and Miss Dance of California 2012! Shely has taught master classes throughout the United States and Canada and has judged for American Dance Awards, Dance Masters of America’s Miss and Mr. Dance Solo Title Competition and for many DMA Chapters.

Shely has had many award winning students throughout the years including the 2000 Miss Dance of America, 2001 Teen Mr. Dance of America, 2003 Mr. Dance of America, 2006 Teen Mr. Dance of a America and the 2009 Junior Mr. Dance of America

Shely’s students can be seen on Broadway, in National Touring Companies, music videos, television commercials, professional ballet and modern dance companies. Her student JP Viernes has been cast in the title role of “Billy Elliot” in Chicago, Toronto, and San Francisco and is now touring with the show. His sister Lexi (who is also a member of the Shely Pack Dancers) recently joined her brother in Billy Elliot and is now touring with the show.

Another student, Kristin Oei, is currently appearing in Spiderman the Musical on Broadway. Yet another student, Pater Chursin, not only appeared in the revival of West Side Story on Broadway but also appeared in the dance company "Complexions".

Two students with the studio have won the Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts in San Francisco and a $10,000 prize for their dancing abilities.


Shely's studio, the Shely Pack Dancers, was named one of the top fifty studio's in the country by Dance Spirit Magazine.

Shely has recently been named “Arts Educator of the Year” by the San Mateo County Peninsula Arts Council.


The Shely Pack Dancers' award winning curriculum has a program to suit everyone.  Highly successful performers are part of the Shely Pack Dancers, whose competition team has won multiple Platinum and Gold Awards on a national level.  There are special classes for Pre-School age children, which are upbeat and diversified, using music they enjoy hearing. 

 For school age children, who are mostly looking for fun, there are many class combinations of ballet, tap and jazz designed to introduce them to various dance forms in an enjoyable forum and give them the opportunity to perform as well.  Finally for those students who wish to study dance seriously, there is an intensive program in place for them, taught by nationally acclaimed master teachers.

Shely Pack-Manning has been a dance educator for nearly 40 years. She began her ballet training in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with Miller School of Ballet, Carl Heindrick and Virginia Toth. She studied intensively with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, where she danced professionally. She also danced professionally with “Timepiece” a Pittsburgh based modern dance company. She has trained in Modern Dance with Judith Leifer and Eric Hawkins. She was part of the TTS faculty at Long Beach University for two years before becoming  the chairman of the Modern Dance Education Committee for Dance Masters of America and is the co-author of the Modern Dance Training Manual. Along with her husband, Jim Manning, Shely was commissioned to produced the training DVD “The Art of Teaching Modern Dance” and the soon to be released “The Art of Teaching Ballet”, both for Dance Masters of America. Shely is honored to be part of the faculty of Teachers Training School at the University of Buffalo.

Shely is a member of Dance Masters of California Chapter 13, where she is a Past President. She also serves as Vice-President for Dance Masters of America and is the chairman of the Modern Dance Education Committee.

Shely has taught master class throughout the United States and Canada. She has judged for American Dance Awards, Dance Masters of America’s Miss and Mr. Dance Solo Title Competition and for many DMA Chapters. She was Opening Number choreographer for the National Teen Solo Title Competition in New Orleans and the Junior Solo Title Competition in Las Vegas.

 

 

Grace Holmquist started with the Shely Pack Dancers when she was a young student of only five years of age.  She has studied all forms of dance including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, and hiphop. Grace is a former winner of the Dance Masters of California Teen Miss Dance of California. She has been featured in the instructional video "The Art of Teaching Ballet" for Dance Masters of America's teachers training program.

Grace is currently on the board of directors of Dance Masters of California Chapter #13.

Adrian Bermudez was born in Managua, Nicaragua and moved to the US at the age of 7. He was trained in Latin and pop music dancing by his older siblings and eventually realized he wanted to become a professional dancer after taking a 4 month trip to New York City. Adrian moved back to San Francisco and trained in Ballet at the Academy of Ballet in San Francisco, Dance Spectrum with Carlos Carvajal and Dance Theatre with Penelope Johnson and Larry Burgoon. He studied Jazz with Ann Garvin at Dancers' Synectics and went on to dance at various casino shows in Reno, Nevada. It was at this time he re-focused his energies on partner dancing and trained in Ballroom and Salsa dancing. Adrian has also trained and performed in all styles of Swing, Tango Argentino, Italian and European folk dances. For the last two decades he has performed at many corporate and cultural events throughout Northern California. Adrian brings his experience in both teaching and performing to the Shely Pack Dancers and looks forward to dancing with his new students in partner dancing and Zumba.
